By the time I graduated from Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, I had done a ton of theatre.  However, it is still odd that by then I had done Godspell no less than 3 times.  It is clear to me that God meant that to happen.  Did you know that much of Godspell is scripture quoted from the Book of Matthew?  Yes, often word for word.  The crazy thing about this show is each production brought someone to our LORD.  And God graciously put me in a place where I would know of it.  Now, the actors I worked with were mostly unbelieving.  Understadably, this messed a bit with my previous notions of ministry.  If a Broadway musical done by nonbelievers, done for every motive under the sun except salvation, could bring salvation.... ummm... “LORD, what does that mean”?  I began to have a sneaking suspicion that I had underestimated the power of the LORD described in Isaiah 55?

“The words that come out of my mouth will not come back empty handed, they’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them. (from Isaiah 55, The Message)

”Oh, right, maybe it is His work and not ours after all.  Maybe we do not rely enough on the ability of God's words to do God’s work in our lives.

This word for word dramatic presentation of the Book of James is a powerful way to speak to a group about the many themes in James... mercy and its place in “love your neighbor as yourself”, uses of the tongue, hearing the word and acting upon it, acting with pure motives and the confidence that comes when we step out in faith to do the thing God has called us to do, the proper approach to those who labor for us... just to name a few.  God’s words are spiritually powerful and equipped to set people on a path of vibrant faith.

I am blessed to be a pastor's daughter, pastor's wife and mother of 2.  For many summers I have hosted bible memory games for kids in my backyard. During the school year I host Mom's in Prayer in my living room.  My study of the book of James has included an intense 6 year study of commentaries, Greek phrases, church history, Josephus and other such writers, discussions with pastors, rabbis, and professors of Jewish history, and of equal poignancy is what I have learned from listening to and praying with women after performances. My calling is in hearing the real live struggles of women and praying on their behalf the questions that only God can answer. The apostle's creed is a good statement of faith which I agree with.
